Breast cancer kills half-a-million women a year worldwide. In the United States, one in eight women will develop the disease. Technology meant to detect breast cancer can catch it too late.
DETECTED introduces an idea: a bra that detects breast cancer. Tech entrepreneur Rob Royea claims that by monitoring cells’ metabolic activity, the bra will identify cancer earlier than a mammogram. And unlike a mammogram, the bra doesn’t have trouble finding cancer in dense breast tissue.
Rob faces two problems though: getting his technology to work and paying for it. On the horizon awaits a billion-dollar mammography industry and building trust around a cancer-detecting wearable. Cancer survivor Melanie Griffith narrates DETECTED.
